I was really pleased to see an article in July’s issue of Out concerning gay gamers. I applaud the effort to delve into every aspect of gay life and gay culture. I was, however, a little displeased to see how little information there was in the article itself. The author focused very closely on one particular massive multiplayer online role-playing game. The article made it seem as though World of Warcraft was the first game in which people were doing this. With a little more research, I’m sure the author could have found a vast community of gay gamers online and in multiple games. Final Fantasy XI, EverQuest, City of Heroes, and Guild Wars are just a few that I know for a fact have specifically gay or gay-friendly guilds. Also, there are Web sites devoted specifically to gay gamers: Gamers Experimentations (gamers.experimentations.org) comes to mind. I know this is not the only one, but it seems to be the most prominent. I’m so glad that Out took the time to look into this subject that, for a lot of gay gamers like myself, borders on obsession. I wish the article could have been a little more in-depth and delved a little deeper into this sub-subculture. But all in all, thanks for the exposure and the effort to be inclusive.Travis Varner Harrisburg, Pa.
