The lesbian designer, with a huge LGBT fan base, inspired countless Carries with her Sex and the City outfits, now she's ready for the next generation.

Her work on The Devil Wears Prada earned her an Oscar nomination, and Pat Field's designs for Sex and the City and Ugly Betty are legend. But the 74-year-old lesbian fashion maven recently had an unexpected experience when a guest at her New York City boutique needed the place to herself when Caitlyn Jenner stopped by for some fashion inspiration (and a taping) for her E! docu series, I Am Cait.

"I'd never met her," Field told The Independent Magazine for a cover story. "I quickly had to get a little feel for her, but my friend was very helpful in that sense. We were trying on clothes and seeing what she liked and felt good in. It was a great experience for me - she's very open, down-to-earth, appreciative. Really, what she's doing is quite a thing - she's handling it beautifully."

But just because her ideas and style can be flamboyant, don't think it's only for that.

"People would say, 'Oh you're the mother of the drag queens'. I'm not! They're theatrical, fun, and expressive. I love to be around that creative energy, so of course I welcome them. They entertain me and make me feel life is a game, a party. It's fun! Yes I like to be around the drag queens but it's not because I'm altruistic, marching up and down for drag queen freedom. It's about being inspired."

So what's next? She says she wants to make a movie herself, a remake an obscure 1950s Greek comedy, but she's currently working onIntimissimi on Ice, an operatic ice skating show for the Italian lingerie brand Intimissimi, to be staged next month in Verona. "This is a big project," says Field. "But I was excited because it was different. And that excitement and energy inspires me to do a great job. New experiences like this give me joy."
