Tituss Burgess is set to take over the role of Mary Todd Lincoln originated by Out100 honoree Cole Escola, who ended their run in December 2024. The news was revealed on the official social media channels for Oh, Mary! on Thursday.
"Sensational!" reads the official post. "Six-time Emmy Award-nominated actor Tituss Burgess returns to Broadway in Oh, Mary! as Mary Todd Lincoln beginning Tuesday, March 18 for a limited 3-week engagement through Sunday, April 6."
Burgess also celebrated the news with a post on Instagram:
"I couldn't be happier!"
For context, Burgess has been Escola's top choice to play Mary for quite some time. During an episode of Las Culturistas from May 2024, for instance, cohosts Matt Rogers and Bowen Yang asked Escola if they'd like an A-list star to take on the role next.
"My dream is is Tituss Burgess," the Oh, Mary! creator, writer, and performer revealed. Escola jokingly added, "In a way that almost would make me be like, 'Wait, maybe you're too good.' Like, imagine… I can picture it: how Tituss's wig would be different too… like, the stupid curls."
Well, guess what, Mimi? Dreams do come true sometimes!
As it stands, Deadline reports that tickets for Oh, Mary! are on sale through Saturday, June 28, 2025.
