Australian rugby player and bobsledder Simon Dunn passed away earlier this month at just 35 years of age. Although no information has been revealed as to the cause, authorities noted it is "not being treated as suspicious."
In the wake of his death, a GoFundMe was set up to help cover costs for the public funeral and his cremation.
The page for the fundraiser says the funds will "go towards covering the costs of accommodating his many supports, friends, and family, the logistics of recording and streaming it to the international community, and the cremation itself."
It's also noted that these donations are "in addition to some generous offerings from local community venues to use their space for the service."
The fundraising page further writes that Dunn was appreciated by the many charities and LGBTQIA+ communities he promoted and served while he was alive.
The fundraiser also says more information about the funeral will be released in the coming days, and that there's limited stock but a lot of interest for his calendar. The funds from any purchase of his calendar goes back to his family and the charities he "held closest to his heart."
The fundraiser, led by manager Brendon Beavan, is seeking $40,000 AUD to reach their goal. At the time of this writing, they've accrued $33,555 so far.
