1985 Trailer Tells Heart-Wrenching AIDS Drama in Black-and-White
Writer/director Yen Tan has adapted his short, 1985 into a feature length film. Filmed on black-and-white 16mm film, it captures a raw emotion and a pivotal moment in American history.
The film follows Adrian (Cory Michael Smith) who returns to his Texas hometown for the holidays after three years of being away. A closeted advertising executive, he's lost many friends at the height of the AIDS outbreak. While at home, he attempts to reconnect with his preteen brother, Andrew (Aidan Langford), while navigating his relationship with his parents (Virginia Madsen and Michael Chiklis) and confronting unresolved issues with childhood friend Carly (Jamie Chung).
