Willful ignorance at its best.

It's sad when people would rather sit and stew in a place of intolerance and prejudice instead of trying to learn and remove themselves from ignorance. Apparently comedian Lil Duval likes his seat at the transphobic table just fine, though--after making violent transphobic remarks during Friday's episode of New York's Breakfast Club morning radio show, he remains unrepentant.

When asked by one of the show's hosts how he would react if he found out a woman he was dating for four months was transgender, he said she's "dying." Even when the other hosts tried to rein him in a bit he continued: "You manipulated me to believing that this thing--my mind--I can't--I'm gay now!" Let the weight of that statement and its utter lack of understanding sink in.

After the episode aired actress Laverne Cox was quick to attempt to educate Duvall, citing the statistics for the aggression and violence trans women face in America, with trans women of color being even more effected. Trans writer and activist Tiq Milan was also ready to remind the world how an overarching heteronormative society has failed trans women:

Unsurprisingly, Duvall remains willfully ignorant, content to discount an entire community of people based on his lack of understanding and empathy.
