Tony Kushner is Writing a Play About Donald Trump
“I think he is borderline psychotic.”
Few people have taken a social moment and spun it into artistry as Tony Kushner did when he approached the AIDS crisis during the Reagan era in Angels in America. Now Kushner is putting his pen back to the page writing a play about Donald Trump.

In an interview with theDaily Beast, Kushner said the play would take place two years before the election. "He's the kind of person, as a writer, I tend to avoid as I think he is borderline psychotic," he said. "It's terrifying because he has all the power, but without the mental faculties he ought to have. I think he is seriously mentally ill, and the fat hat he is in the White House is very frightening."
Speaking of Trump and Roy Cohn, the villainous lawyer from Angels, Kushner found similarities in their dedication to perpetuating lies. "What they share is McCarthy's belief that you shouldn't be a small, nervous liar," he said. "Make it huge, and never admit it, even if people might scream in your face about it being a lie. In the immediate moment, bend reality around what you say. Whether you are discovered, come up with an even bigger one." We'll see what other eerie parallels come through in the completed play.
