Imagine having a country leader that supports the LGBTQ community, recognizes them as equal citizens under the law, and fights to undo decades of systematic oppression and discrimination. Oh right, we had that for eight years.
While Donald Trump refuses to uphold a the years-long tradition of recognizing June as LGBTQ Pride Month, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is on the ground with the people he serves and spent a part of his weekend walking in Toronto's Pride parade.
"Love is love," he tweeted, with the hashtag "#PrideTO."
Though Barack Obama never marched in a Pride parade while he held presidential office, his support for the LGBTQ community was unquestionable. He announced in 2012 that he was in favor of same-sex marriage, and stated that the Supreme Court made the correct decision when they ruled in favor of nationwide marriage equality.
