Moonlight made history as the first queer movie to take home the Oscar for Best Motion Picture. It was the inspiring culmination of a long list of LGBTQ films to earn even a nomination from the Academy.

Unfortunately, most of the movies on the list feature predominately white casts and very few actually queer actors. But as we gain more social progress, the standards for representation in Hollywood increase. This year's Academy Awards were proof that audiences' voices have never been louder, and they are being heard.
