The sold-out rap musical Hamilton has thousands of New Yorkers gambling to be able to hear the voices of its stars, Leslie Odom Jr. and Daveed Diggs. Now they have their chance.
This week, the two Broadway actors released a cover of Selena Gomez's hit single, Good For You, as a free download on Odom's Bandcamp. His smooth as butter adulations suit the twinkling chords of this provocative anthem, while Diggs' rapping is tantalizing, his signature gravelly tone adding grit to the original lyrics rapped by A$AP Rocky.
Although Odom has surely carved out a space for himself in his own right, the cover is reminiscent of other popular R&B crooners, such as Justin Timberlake or the disgraced Robin Thicke. Covers are often too cliche to enjoy... not this one.
