Lip Sync Battle: Taraji P. Henson v. Terrence Howard
The eternal struggle between Cookie and Lucious rages on.
It was a night of soulful R&B jams and iconic throwbacks when Taraji P. Henson and Terrence Howard duked it out in Lip Sync Battle.
The Empire costars may play embittered spouses on the popular drama, but when they took it to the stage it was all in fun.
During round one Henson performed Mary J. Blige's empowering anthem, "Just Fine" and, even though we knew it was coming, we still lost it when Blige herself strutted out to duet with the competitor. For his follow up, Howard tried valiantly to set the tone, or mood, with Boyz II Men's sultry "I'll Make Love to You."
Enter round two, the round of throwbacks. Howard went first in this round in a sort of "loser takes outs" move (you can't beat Mary J.) and came back with a fire in his heart, red boots on his feet, an impressive wig on his head, a fishnet shirt on his back, and a diamond-tipped cane in hand. Yes, we're talking full-on Rick James and a leg-kicking performance of "Brick House."
Not to be outdone, Henson goes for the method approach as well, donning platinum curls as a young Madonna for "Material Girl." She floats above the ground, in part due to her amazing performance, and also because her backup dancers carry her whenever she needs to cross the stage. Madge would be proud.
