James Franco to Play Twin Porn Impressarios in HBO’s The Deuce

James Franco

James Franco bein’ James Franco, only twice.

The elder Franco brother's career-long infatuation with all things seedy shows no signs of slowing. Bounding from Kink and Interior: Leather Bar., Franco has landed two starring roles in HBO's old-school porno series, The Deuce.

Set the "bad New York" days of the 1970s and '80s--when you'd get into fights with hookers and junkies in Times Square, not Spider-Man--Franco will play twin mobsters controlling the porn scene in Midtown's formerly most infamous intersection.

Created by The Wire show runner, David Simon, the show will be directed by Game of Thrones and Breaking Bad alumn Michelle MacLaren. According to EW, the show "follows the story of the legalization and subsequent rise of the porn industry in New York from the early 1970s through the mid-1980s, exploring the rough-and-tumble world that existed in midtown Manhattan until the rise of HIV, the violence of the cocaine epidemic and the renewed real estate market all ended the bawdy turbulence."

James Franco and Other James Franco will star as twin brothers who were "players in the Times Square world and became fronts for Mob control of the volatile and lucrative sex industry from its origins."

"We're interested in what it means when profit is the primary metric for what we call society," Simon says. "In that sense, this story is intended as neither prurient nor puritan. It's about a product, and those human beings who created, sold, profited from and suffered with that product."

Apparently the show's title is a nickname for 42nd Street.

"Porn, prostitution, pimps, the Mob, after-hours nightlife, institutional corruption, and New York in its Wild West heyday...it's a world rich in character, and a fascinating story we're eager to tell," say George Pelecanos, who along with Richard Price wrote some scripts for the show.

The show's just been greenlit, so we don't have any info on a premier date, but we keep you posted on any double the Franco, double the fun news. But we do know that Franco is into duality. Remember when "straight" Franco interviewed "gay" Franco earlier this year?
