NBC Casts Newcomer Shanice Williams to Play Dorothy in The Wiz Live!
18-year-old Shanice Williams finds out, there's no place like home.
After an extensive open casting call, and some expert dream casting on our part, NBC has finally found its Dorothy for The Wiz Live!
The network announced on The Today Show, that 18-year-old newcomer Shanice Williams landed the iconic role. A New Jersey native, Williams will be following the footsteps of soul legend Diana Ross, who played Dorothy in the 1978 film version of The Wiz.
Williams will also be working alongside other music icons, Queen Latifah (as the Wiz) and Mary J. Blige (as the Wicked Witch of the West). Actor and comedian, David Alan Grier will be playing the Cowardly Lion.
