It's Happening: Degrassi Picked Up by Netflix
Although it was recently announced that Degrassi: The Next Generation will say goodbye this summer at the end of its 14th season, Netflix has picked up the TeenNick soap for another season. In 2016, it will join the ranks of Arrested Development in Netflix's second-chance club as Degrassi: Next Class.
Notorious for being the most dramatic thing to ever happen in Canada, the show's predecessor, Degrassi High premiered in the 1980s and dealt with groundbreaking topics such as HIV and teen pregnancy.
Most know the Degrassi: The Next Generation for Drake's introduction as wheelchair-bound basketball player Jimmy Brooks. Others know it as the middle school guide to eating disorders, coming out of the closet, and getting your first period in a white skirt.
What better medium than Netflix for the modern generation's after school specials?
