Monarchy Goes Fifty Shades with Dita Von Teese for 'Black Widow'
Last year, Andrew Armstrong of London-based DJ duo Monarchy told me over a crackly trans-Atlantic phone call: "I'm not sure we're ever going to do another album actually. In a lot of ways, the album format is kind of dead."
Eight months later: Boom, sophomore LP. Thanks, guys!
The pair has just released the video for "Black Widow" and, like in their short for "Disintegration," Dita Von Teese stars. The burlesque vixen first caught them at Coachella in 2011 and loved them so much she insisted on collaborating with them.
Synthy and full of falsetto, "Black Widow" makes for a beguiling four minutes. When paired with Von Teese and a bit of S&M, it's spellbinding.
