Harper Watters is shattering glass ceilings in the world of ballet.
The professional dancer rose to fame as the first-ever Black principal dancer with the Houston Ballet. He even went viral for performing ballet routines on a treadmill, which helped him create a notable presence on social media.
Although Watters is carving his own lane as a gifted dancer, he attributes his success to the trailblazers who opened the doors for him to thrive. Alvin Ailey, Albert Evans, Desmond Richardson, and the iconic Destiny's Child served as major inspirations for him to pursue his dream. In his own words, βDreaming gave me direction. The visibility gave me permission. The work created the possibility.β
Now, Watters wants to create new opportunities for the next generation of queer dancers to perform at their highest abilities while staying authentic to who they truly are. Throughout, Watters is bringing his sass and sense. As one of the balletβs most recognizable figures, heβs encouraging everyone to step into their power through example and leadership. Plus, he might throw in a cute Wendy Williams reference while teaching his routines!
Also, this Capricorn is single. βMy DMs are open,β he shares. @theharperwatters
