Thereβs no denying that the world is obsessed with breakout star Michael Johnston.
Nobody saw Obsession coming, but what began as an independent micro-budget film quickly turned into one of the biggest horror movies of all time. As the fifth highest-grossing horror film in cinema history, it also surpassed all other original, non-franchise live-action films released in the 2020s.
The entire cast and crew delivered star-making performances, but Johnstonβs eerie depiction of Bear is already receiving awards show buzz. Fans have also commended Johnston for his portrayal of queer character Corey Bryant in the final two seasons of Teen Wolf.
Johnston finds himself being increasingly open about his sexuality and his desire to tell queer stories. "Iβm so proud of who I am. Iβve been out, I wouldnβt say loudly, but itβs just part of who I am,β he told Out earlier this year. βIβm really looking forward to getting to tell a really good queer story in the future.β
As an Out100 honoree, Johnston has a message for others: βGive yourself permission to create. It doesnβt matter if youβre βgood at it.β The magic is simply letting your authentic self take up space.β @themichaeljohnston
