Dan Levy knows how much a comedy can hold. On Schitt’s Creek, which he cocreated with his father, Eugene Levy, he gave audiences a love story between two men that could be funny, tender, and certain of its happy ending. The series swept its categories at the 2020 Emmy Awards, but its lasting achievement may be how many people still return to it for comfort.

Levy has kept expanding the kinds of stories he tells. He wrote, directed, and starred in Good Grief, a film about friendship and loss, then turned to family crime comedy with Big Mistakes. The Netflix series, which he cocreated and stars in, has been renewed for a second season.

“Made some of the best seasons of TV of my career with the greatest cast and crew in the business. Big Mistakes season 2 will be a killerrr,” he promises.

Levy’s production company has tackled a wide range of projects, from the food competition series The Big Brunch to a documentary about Lilith Fair. The common thread is his attention to a story’s resonance with viewers.

“I love what I do. And I work hard to make things that mean something to me and, if I’m lucky, mean something to other people as well.” @instadanjlevy
