“If there isn’t a business resource group at your company focused on supporting LGBTQ+ employees, create one!” urges Olivia Flood, global co lead, with Jace Farber, of Égalité, communications powerhouse Publicis Groupe’s business resource group for LGBTQ+ employees and their allies. “Continue to challenge the status quo and fight for the safety of LGBTQ+ people in all spaces, including the workplace.”
Her message, she says, “is inspired by the incredible athletes in the WNBA — ‘leave it better than you found it.’”
“The largest obstacle I faced prior to joining Égalité was being my full authentic self as a leader within my company,” shares Flood, senior vice president of media contracts at Publicis Groupe. The first small step in overcoming that was being able to say out loud and proudly that I’m a lesbian.” This step also “allowed the LGBTQ+ members on my team to fully be their authentic self in the workplace without fear of retribution,” she says.
Next up: creating “a global LGBTQ+ mentorship program that pairs younger employee members with senior leaders within Égalité.” @pgegalite
