Tonatiuh has been one to watch since his character's "queerceñera" episode on the queer and Latine-centered Starz series Vida. Named for a sun god, Tonatiuh shines brighter than ever in the big screen adaptation of the Kander and Ebb musical Kiss of the Spider Woman. Singing the songs by the composer and lyricist behind Cabaret and Chicago and starring alongside Jennifer Lopez and Diego Luna in the film are accomplishments that make Tonatiuh proud. And amid this success, he continues to fight for social causes.
"Collaborating with IMDEF and CHIRLA — two organizations fighting for immigrant rights in the U.S. — also filled my spirit,” he says.
Up next, the star of the 2022 family drama Promised Land will appear in Ryan Murphy's American Love Story, and he says, "I'm on the hunt for my Broadway debut."
With his career skyrocketing, Tonatiuh has a call to action for LGBTQ+ people.
"The fight for queer liberation has always been just that: a fight. Pick up the brick,” he says. “We are the frontline for freedom, and our strength and integrity matter now more than ever. Lean on your community, cultivate joy, and hold the line. We can't give in to despair." @iamtonatiuh
