OUT100: Matthew Zink

Designer

Photography by JUCO | Retouching by Anna Glen at Wet Noodle

The Moment: 1992: Herb Ritts photographs Mark Wahlberg and Kate Moss for Calvin Klein's iconic campaign.

Ohio native Matthew Zink has established a dedicated fan base of sexy gentlemen (and ladies) for his luxury swimwear brand, Charlie. In addition to the myriad "Charlie fans" who love rocking Zink's creations in selfies they share on Twitter and Instagram, the designer received a big push from pop divas Jennifer Lopez, Rihanna, and Kylie Minogue, who have all personally worn Charlie swimsuits. This fall, he debuted an underwear line, following in the footsteps of other apparel brands that have built an empire by glorifying the male physique. "I really respond to anyone that wants to celebrate beauty and the body," Zink says, citing the work of Herb Ritts, Helmut Newton, and Tom Bianchi as references. "But today, with social media and the Internet, there are so many young people I find inspiring."
