On Wednesday, Maryland's House of Delegates passed a ban on gay conversion therapy for minors. The bill had already passed the state's Senate and now goes to Governor Larry Hogan for his signature.
"This is a discredited practice, and we're just trying to align our law to that degree," Rich Madaleno, the gay senator that created the bill, said in an interview with The Washington Post.

If this bill is signed, Maryland will join 11 other states that have banned the practice.
"Conversion therapy is a torturous process in which a minor is robbed of their true identity," Madaleno said during a hearing on the bill. "They are forced into changing their sexual orientation or their gender identity."
