Madonna announced she was performing just 30 minutes before she took to Washington Square Park with her son, David Banda, on guitar.
Madge ditched any glam-pop aesthetic for folky renditions of "Express Yourself," "Don't Tell Me," John Lennon's "Imagine," "Like a Prayer," Pete Seeger's "If I Had a Hammer," and "Rebel Heart."
Before she started the show, Madonna said:
"This concert is about unifying us. How are we going to keep America great? We are going to elect a president who does not discriminate against women, who does not discriminate against the LGBT community, who does not discriminate against people of color, that does not want to build a wall around our country and separate us from the rest of the world. This is a concert about peace."
