It's an all-new era for Kim Petras!
After years of releasing bops through her own imprint, BunHead Records, the 29-year-old trans pop star has signed with Republic Records and is preparing for her major-label debut album! And Petras is kicking off the era with a new song, "Future Starts Now," a boppy little song about looking forward to what's coming ahead.
"I felt so anxious at the start of lockdown, because for me the most anxiety-inducing thing is not being able to work and do what I love," Petras said in a statement. "'Future Starts Now' came from trying to stay present, instead of stressing about the future and all the lost time."
Petras teased this new era of her music when she played "Future Starts Now" at her epic Lollapalooza performance in Chicago, and now, she's ready to share her new music with the rest of the world.
This new is inspired by both "'80s-infused dance hits" and the "European house music that she fell in love with on her childhood family trips to Paris." According to a release, her debut album "is a shimmering, dance-pop escape that marries elements from her early pop hits and her critically acclaimed projects Clarity and TURN OFF THE LIGHT."
The singer tweeted about how excited she is to share the new music. "THE FUTURE STARTS NOW it's out !! i can't believe it," she tweeted. "thank u guys for sticking with me . this project means the world to me and i'm so excited to share it all with u !! now let's all go listen together oui - ah !!!"

Petras is known for catchy and danceable songs like "Malibu," "Feeling of Falling" with Cheat Codes, "I Don't Want It At All," and her first top 40 hit "Heart to Break." It'll be exciting to see what she does now that she has a major label behind her. Hopefully, she'll be able to find some new producers to work with.
Republic Records is home to such superstars as Ariana Grande, Drake, the Jonas Brothers, Nicki Minaj, The Weeknd, and Taylor Swift, so Petras is joining quite the lineup. We can't wait to see what she does next!
