Lil Nas X Goes Full Blade Runner in ‘Panini’ Music Video
We may finally stop getting new "Old Town Road" remixes, because the era of pressed sandwiches is upon us. Yes, cowtheys, Lil Nas X's "Panini" music video is here.
The video, clearly inspired by sci-fi films like Blade Runner, stars meme queen Skai Jackson as she tries to escape various holograms of Lil Nas X. She's got a budget, huh?
Last month, Lil Nas X became the first LGBTQ+ artist to win Song of the Year at the VMAs. "I want to say thank you to this man for helping me take my career to the next level," he said, honoring collaborator Billy Ray Cyrus. He also performed at the event, giving us a teaser of the music video.
Just this week, the artist had an awkward moment with noted homophobe Kevin Hart during an episode of HBO's The Shop: Uninterrupted. Hart attempted to minimize Lil Nas X's coming out, saying, "He said he was gay. So what?"
When asked about his choice to come out at the peak of his fame, the rapper explained that he'd been taught "to hate that shit" to the group of straight men, which included Uninterrupted CEO Maverick Carter, three-time Super Bowl champion Rob Gronkowski, Cleveland Cavalier and NBA champion Kevin Love, Portland Trailblazer CJ McCollum, radio personality and author Charlamagne tha God, and marketing executive Paul Rivera. "If you really from the 'hood you know," added the Lil Nas.
"For me, the cool dude with this song, on top of everything to say this any other time, [it could be seen as] I'm doing this for attention, in my eyes. But if you doing this while you're at the top, you know it's for real and it's showing it doesn't really matter, I guess."
