Mystery Artist Releases Piano Version of Frank Ocean's Blonde
An unknown artist performing under the moniker Blond Piano has released an entire album of piano tributes to Frank Ocean's Blonde. The instrumental 15-track LP was released on March 19 without any promotional campaign, so for weeks went unnoticed until it was brought to the surface this week by DJBooth.
The 50-minute rendition of Ocean's sophomore album offers a soothing take on the bisexual singer/songwriter's rich melodies. Using only piano, a deeply emotional instrument, Blond Piano's work reflects the personal storytelling of Blonde, where Ocean intimately reflects on childhood, family life and romantic relationships from many points of view.
"How we experience memory sometimes, it's not linear," Ocean told the New York Times, discussing how Blonde is written from multiple perspectives. "We're not telling the stories to ourselves, we know the story, we're just seeing it in flashes overlaid."
