The 2017 American Music Awards really screwed up: artists nominated this year in many of their major categories seem to completely miss the mark. Everyone nominated for Artist of the Year is a man, as well as every nominee for Tour of the Year, Video of the Year, and four of the five nominees for New Artist of the Year.
It's a cis, male, largely white group of people we're seeing nominated for AMAs this year, which nominee Halsey took notice of and critiqued on Twitter:
“Really honored to have received an @AMAs nomination but really disappointed to hear near exclusively male names... such a missed opportunity”— h (@h) 1507813214
“so many incredible female artists have released this year. hoping the coming award shows give them the credit that is due to them.”— h (@h) 1507813358
