Christine and the Queens have tread softly since bringing their signature sound Stateside. Despite the critical success of their Saint Claude EP and a stellar showing on Late Night with Seth Meyers. Which is just fine.
The out-and-proud Christine's brand of pop does not lend itself to a full-on PR offensive. Measured and ambient almost to the point of being ecclesiastical, Christine's sound can't be parsed into clips, or Vines, or Snapchats. Her persona isn't pre-packaged for quickie interviews or blurbs.
Rather, to really feel the breadth of emotion, skill, and soul that Christine puts in her music and to get Christine, you have to listen to it full-blast, uninterrupted, and deeply.
Case-in point her collaboration with Perfume Genius, "Jonathan." The track walks the line between being lo-fi dirge, hushed lullaby, and faraway ballad. It's too multifaceted to be classified, but complex enough to be enjoyed on quite a few levels.
