First Blade Runner 2049 Trailer Paints a Classist Future Society on the Brink of Collapse

First Blade Runner 2049 Trailer Paints a Classist Future Society on the Brink of Collapse

Blade Runner 2049, Ryan Gosling, Harrison Ford, Jared Leto

Maybe not as fictitious as it seems.

"Every civilization was built off the back of a disposable workforce," Jared Leto's apparently blind character intones before caressing the goo-covered face of a newly born replicant and wishing it "happy birthday."

After the first teaser for Blade Runner 2049 only gave us a glimpse at an interaction between Officer K. (Ryan Gosling) and Rick Dekcard (Harrison Ford), the first trailer is here to give us a smidge of story.

Set 30 years after the events of the first film, the Blade Runner sequel will follow K as he digs deeper and deeper for a secret that could collapse the classist society if the future. Featuring just the right amount of gritty cityscapes and massive hologram women, Blade Runner 2049 is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated sci-fi titles of the fall. Watch, below.
