Sometimes the most telltale sign of growing up is acting out. In Being 17, the latest from French filmmaking legend Andre Techine, high schoolers Damien (Kacey Mottet Klein) and Tom (Corentin Fila) spar frequently, their fights a classic expression of each boy's suppressed hunger for the other. Padding the movie with a Kleenex box's worth of familial drama, Techine teases out the romance in a feature-length act of foreplay before arriving at an inevitable (and quite literal) climax. Meanwhile, at the other end of the coming-of-age spectrum: Dirty 30, in which three YouTube favorites play three besties staring down adulthood while sucking down Jell-O shots. As Kate (Mamrie Hart) approaches the big 3-0, unhappily partnered Evie (Grace Helbig) and half-closeted Charlie (Hannah Hart) toast their friend teenage-style with a '90s-themed, keg-filled rager. The results? Dirty deeds indeed, but also much needed newfound maturity.

Dirty 30 opens on September 23; Being 17 opens on October 7.
