Uno Is Releasing a Special-Edition Pride Deck, Donating $50,000

Uno Pride collection

The classic card game has teamed with the It Gets Better Project.

UNO just got a little more colorful for Pride. The classic card game has teamed up with parent company Mattel and the It Gets Better Project to create a special UNO Play with Pride edition in honor of Pride Month. The limited edition rainbow-colored card game will retail for $5.99 and can be purchased exclusively at Target.com and Target stores nationwide. Best of all, Mattel will donate $50,000 to the It Gets Better Project, which aims to uplift, empower, and connect LGBTQ+ youth and show them life does get better.

"UNO is a celebrated game with the ability to transcend age, culture, and language while bringing people together -- something we aspire to do at the It Gets Better Project," Eboni Munn, director of brand marketing, content, and creative at It Gets Better, told Pride. "We are thrilled Mattel has chosen to partner with a non-profit serving a diverse global community of LGBTQ+ youth for its first-ever Play with Pride deck, and we look forward to continued inclusivity and representation that reflects the world we live in."

Mattel, the parent company of the 50-year-old card game, tweeted the special Pride edition of the card game "celebrates the LGBTQ+ community in honor of Price Month" as well as the mission of partner It Gets Better.

In addition to the $50,000 donation, Mattel Games has also partnered with It Gets Better for their digital Pride festival scheduled for next month. Created by Dan Savage and his partner, Terry Miller, It Gets Better seeks to help LGBTQ+ youth who feel they are alone in coming to terms with their sexual identity by uplifting, empowering, and connecting LGBTQ+ youth around the world. The organization is celebrating 10 years in existence this summer.

UNO was created in 1971 by Merle Robbins, a barber, who originally sold the game from his barbershop to friends and customers. He later sold the rights to the game to a group of friends who formed a company to market the games. UNO and the new company were acquired by Mattel in 1992.

UNO Play with Pride edition can be purchased online at Target.com or a Target store locations nationwide.
