A new study conducted by Gay Star News revealed that about 25% of gay/bisexual men lie on dating/hook-up apps and 28% of retired gay men do.
GSN surveyed over 3,000 men for their report. Roughly 35% of the men were retired and 65% were not.
Retirees and non-retirees were asked how honest they were about their age on apps and on real life dates.
Results revealed:
For non-retirees on hookup apps:
-- 12% never or rarely tell the truth about their age
-- 13% sometimes or often tell the truth
-- 35% always do
For non-retirees on dates:
-- 6% never or rarely tell the truth about their age
-- 10.5% sometimes or often tell the truth
-- 39% always do on
Interestingly, the numbers weren't much higher for retirees:
For retirees on hookup apps:
-- 12% never or rarely tell the truth about their age
-- 16% sometimes or often tell the truth
-- 42% always do
For retirees on dates:
-- 7% never or rarely tell the truth about their age
-- 15% sometimes or often tell the truth
-- 48% always tell the truth
When asked about ageism in the gay community, 60% of respondents said their experience of dating was 'totally' ageist. Sixteen percent said the scene was a 'little' ageist', while 6% said it was 'maybe' ageist'.
Less than 1% of people felt like dating was 'absolutely not' an ageist experience.
Despite living in the era of Daddy Issues, it seems like gay men still discriminate against older men.
