No, the rumors aren't true — Euphoria season 3 is still happening

Here’s why fans thought that Euphoria season 3 was canceled.

There is now an official — but unfortunate — update about the upcoming third season of the popular teen drama series Euphoria.

On Monday, Mar. 25, HBO responded to the speculation taking over social media that Euphoria season 3 had been canceled. A spokesperson for the network told Variety:

“HBO and Sam Levinson remain committed to making an exceptional third season. In the interim, we are allowing our in-demand cast to pursue other opportunities.”

Given that Euphoria stars like Zendaya (Challengers, Dune: Part Two), Hunter Schafer (Cuckoo, Mother Mary), Jacob Elordi (Frankenstein, On Swift Horses), Colman Domingo (Michael, Sing Sing), and Sydney Sweeney (Echo Valley, Eden) are now all massive movie stars, it does make sense why filming for season 3 had to be rescheduled due to other projects and commitments. Still, HBO seems to remain committed to the show.

Following the end of the WGA-SAG strike of 2023, Warner Bros. Discovery announced that HBO’s Euphoria wouldn’t return for its third season until 2025. Also delayed to 2025 were The Last of Us season 2, The White Lotus season 3, and the Welcome to Derry prequel series in the It cinematic universe.

However, pop culture blog World of Reel published a report on Sunday, Mar. 24 claiming to have inside scoop that Euphoria season 3 has been canceled. The blog’s editor in chief, Jordan Ruimy, wrote in the report:

“I’m hearing that the planned third season of Sam Levinson’s Euphoria has been totally scrapped. It’s not happening. They had plans to shoot it this summer, but that fell through, and on Friday, they told the cast that they could free up their schedules for other projects. I was already amazed that Levinson had managed to get all of the talent involved back, given their busy schedules. Many of the show’s actors have now turned into movie stars — Zendaya, Jacob Elordi, Colman Domingo, Hunter Schafer, Sydney Sweeney, and Austin Abrams, to name a few. The plan to reunite all of them for a third, and final, season has clearly failed.”

Euphoria stans are now freaking out over this report from World of Reel, which was also published on blogs like Men’s Journal and then re-shared on subreddits like r/popculturechat — with 3,200 likes and 480 comments so far.

“Jordan Ruimy is a total assh*le but does have correct scoops about film stuff,” the original poster wrote in the r/popculturechat thread. The rumors also quickly hit X/Twitter, with endless posts either mourning the cancelation of the series or celebrating it.

Generally speaking, HBO’s clarification does corroborate the World of Reel report that shooting for Euphoria season 3 has, indeed, been delayed from its original schedule. On the other hand, the network clearly expressed its commitment to making season 3, shutting down speculation that the series was canceled.

It’s frustrating that we’ll have to wait even longer than expected for Euphoria season 3 to hit our screens, but we love the show and can’t wait for its highly anticipated return to HBO.

The first two seasons of Euphoria are streaming on Max.
