The ABC series 9-1-1 has been edging fans for years, and while the creators might not be ready to make the gay relationship everyone’s been dreaming about a reality just yet, a new BTS video clip is continuing to fuel those “Buddie” fantasies.
A new short video from the set of 9-1-1 season nine shows Ryan Guzman and Oliver Stark, who play Eddie Diaz and Evan Buckley respectively, wearing just their firefight pants. Predictably, this just added fuel to the fire for fans who have been wanting the two men to get together for the last seven seasons, even dubbing the ship “Buddie.”
The candid behind the scenes moment caught on the viral clip, which also has a shirtless and sweaty shot of Michael Provost and Hunter McVey from 9-1-1: Nashville, shows off the pair's intense chemistry that led fans to think they belong together.
Sometimes fans want stars of their favorite shows to get together even though there's no real basis for the pairing. However, Buck did come out as bisexual in season seven and many fans are convinced that Eddie's own sexual awakening is right around the corner.
Buck’s ex-boyfriend Tommy accused Buck of being in love with Eddie in season eight, so the two men are practically raising Eddie's son Christopher together and Guzman even admitted that they "encourage" the fan reactions.
Despite the hints constantly being dropped on the show (or queerbaiting ahem), showrunner Tim Minear admitted that 9-1-1 isn’t like a certain gay hockey romance show. He admits that the possibility of "Buddie" is "exciting," that’s "not what this show is.”
"It is a very difficult subject because I love the Buddie fans, and I am one of them," he told the Washington Post. "It's different than 'Heated Rivalry,' where that is the show — the show is about those two guys getting together. That's not what this show is. This will probably p*ss off people, but whatever, this is what I think. I think the possibility of [Buddie] is what's exciting."
Despite this confession, fans are still keeping their fingers crossed while also manifesting more steamy scenes between the two hunks.
