Lilly Wachowski is making her return to features ā and sheās doing it solo.
The celebrated director recently signed on to helm Trash Mountain, a queer dramedy written about a gay man living in Chicago who goes back to Missouri to settle his fatherās affairs after his death, with the catch being that his father was an āobsessive hoarderā who left, presumably, a mountain of trash and the occasional valuable for his son to sort through.
The film is produced by Jurassic World director Colin Trevorrow, and comes from a script written by Ruby Caster and Caleb Hearon. The latter will also star.

Queer representation and stories are vital at this time as we are being shoved further into the margins. Our amazing writers, Caleb and Ruby are a shining light in all this dang darkness.ā
Notably, this will be Wachowskiās solo directing debut, following a substantial career directing alongside her sister, Lana Wachowski.
Lana made her own solo debut with 2021ās The Matrix Resurrections. Lilly, meanwhile, was busy serving as showrunner on comedian Abby McEnanyās queer-centric Work in Progress from 2019 until its cancelation following the second season in 2022.
Trash Mountain also marks Wachowskiās first feature since Jupiter Ascending, which was considered a financial and critical flop upon its release in 2015, but seems to be gradually picking up devoted fans in the years since.
