It's Torres' feature film directorial debut!

The new trailer for Julio Torres’ brilliant debut film is here!

Los Espookys star and creator Julio Torres has written and directed his first feature film, Problemista, and we cannot wait for it to come out!

Problemista follows Alejandro (played by Torres), an El Salvadorian immigrant in New York City who has dreamed of being a toy designer his entire life and is now applying to be one in the US. While there, he has to deal with a purposefully labyrinthian and Sisyphean immigration system, as well the eccentric and erratic art critic (Tilda Swinton) who hires him to help her put on a show of her late husband’s paintings.

The new trailer shows us Alejandro’s version of New York City, filled with unique toys, impossible hurdles to jump over, unforgettable characters, and trash on the street. It’s both a whimsical journey filled with Torres’ signature humor and artistic vision, and deeply moving film about being yourself and following your dreams, even when things become increasingly hard.

“Alejandro is an aspiring toy designer from El Salvador, struggling to bring his unusual ideas to life in New York City,” the official description reads. “As time on his work visa runs out, a job assisting an erratic art-world outcast becomes his only hope to stay in the country and realize his dream.”

The cast includes Torres and Swinton, as well as RZA, Catalina Aavedra, Greta Lee, and Isabella Rossellini.

Problemista hits theaters on August 4.
