The two stars talk about bringing more types of queer stories to the box office.

The annual Tribeca Film Festival just wrapped earlier this month, and one of the films on everyone's mouths was Our Son, starring out actors Billy Porter and Luke Evans.

While so many LGBTQ+ films in decades past have focused on the search for and formation of queer love, Our Son takes a different, less talked about approach, telling the story of an interracial gay couple (and fathers) in the midst of a divorce.

"Nicky (Luke Evans), a book publisher devoted to his work, lives with his husband Gabriel (Billy Porter), a former actor and stay-at-home dad, and their eight-year-old son, Owen," an official description for the film reads. "Gabriel loves Owen more than anything; Nicky loves Gabriel more than anything. Despite appearances, Gabriel has been dissatisfied with their marriage for some time and files for divorce, leading to a custody battle that forces both of them to confront the changing reality of their love for each other and for their son."

Out got the chance to speak with Porter and Evans on the red carpet just before Our Son's to talk about bringing a different kind of queer love story to the box office, the continued advancement of LGBTQ+ representation, and more.
