Beyonce's September Vogue cover is a glossy piece of fashion history: it's the first time in the magazine's 126-year-history that the front page has been shot by a black photographer.
The cover spread was also unique in that Beyonce was given full creative control of the outfits she wore and wrote the entire accompanying piece, a confessionally-structured, highly transparent explanation of her journey with motherhood, family, and heritage that you can read here.
