We cannot the ways that IFC's Portlandia has brought us joy over these past 4 seasons and we are barely containing our excitement for tonight's Season 5 premiere.
This season Fred Armisen and Carrie Brownstein are changing up the show's format: rather than having multiple sketches, each episode will focus on a single narrative which will delve deeper into the lives of our favorite Portlandia residents.
"We're interested in changing the form... We see it possessing a lot of elasticity," Brownstein told The New York Times. "We're using the same words, the same vernacular, but putting them into sentences instead of phrases."
Tonight's season opener will focus on one of our favorite duos: Women and Women First bookstore proprietors, Toni and Candace.
The episode, titled "The Story of Toni and Candace," will trace the beginnings of the pair's relationship. We go back to 1991; Toni and Candace are high-powered executives at two rival corporate book retailers. A merger brings the two companies together and pits the two against each other to oversee the Chick Lit Department.
There will be snipes. There will be blood. THERE WILL BE SHOULDER PADS!
Tonight's episode will also feature a dance off between the two executives. Watch as the future best friends, then archrivals settle it on the dance floor...to Snap's "I've Got the Power" -- because '90s.
