Ellen Page to Present Laverne Cox with GLAAD Media Award
On Monday, GLAAD announced that Orange is the New Black star, Laverne Cox, will receive the Stephen F. Kolzak Award at the 2014 GLAAD Media Awards for making a significant difference in promoting equality.
Cox is the first trans woman of color to have a starring role on a major scripted television series. She'll return to the small screen on June 6, when the second season debuts on Netflix. Cox was also recently named to the Trans 100 list, which recognizes the 100 most influential members of the transgender community.
Fellow actress Ellen Page will present the award to Cox during the Los Angeles ceremony on April 12. This is Page's first major media appearance following her coming out speech at a Human Rights Campaign conference in Las Vegas.
As previously announced, Jennifer Lopez will be honored with the Vanguard Award at the event for her contributions to the LGBT community.
