Adele to Perform 'Skyfall' at Oscars

Adele-header

The Best Original Song frontrunner will perform live at the Feb. 24 ceremony

Academy Award producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron announced that Adele will take her hit single, "Skyfall," to the Dolby Theater stage: "She is currently one of the most successful recording artists in the world, and we believe that her performance of 'Skyfall' will be an exciting Oscar moment for audiences watching at the Dolby Theatre and on television screens around the world."

Though she took home a Golden Globes statuette for the Skyfall theme earlier this month, Feb. 24 will mark the first time Adele has performed it live.

"It's an honour to be nominated and terrifyingly wonderful to be singing in front of people who have captured my imagination over and over again," Adele said in a statement. "It's something I've never experienced and probably only ever will once!"

This is only the fourth time a Bond film has been nominated for Best Original Song. Sam Mendes's Skyfall also landed nominations for its cinematography, score, sound editing and sound mixing. Skyfall's handful of nominations is fitting, as there will be a James Bond tribute during the Oscar ceremony to commemorate the franchise's 50th anniversary.

Adele is today's singular vocal powerhouse that also tops the charts. In light of her buzz-worthy performance, here's a look back at other divas to own the spotlight on Oscar night. (Read Out's 2011 cover story with Adele.)
