Although the musical biopic of a religious nut and sensational headline grabber--with book and lyrics by Kathie Lee Gifford!--didn't initially appeal to us, the production photos released for SCANDALOUS: The Life and Trials of Aimee Semple McPherson are now starting to sway our opinion in favor.
The camp factor seems to have been turned up to 11 (just check out the shot below of Watts as Samson and Carmello as Delilah if you don't take our word for it). And this sexy shot of Carolee Carmello (who we hear is stunning and should not be missed) with a scantily clad Edward Watts (who is virtually busting out of his lil' briefs) does help.
"She was a fearless, fierce force of nature in feminine form, and we haven't seen anyone like her before or since," Gifford recently told Playbill. Gifford first learned about the Pentecostal preacher while studying at Oral Roberts University. "She was a genius, and that's why I needed a genius like Carolee Carmello to play her."
Carmello is reprising the role that she played when the show was called Saving Aimee and played in Seattle in 2005. The show is now in previews and officially opens November 15.
