Puppy Bowl VIII Will Be Cuter Than Tom Brady

The eighth installment of Animal Planet's spoof airs Super Bowl Sunday

The time is near. You've invited all your friends, bought plenty of chips, dip, and Bud Light. You've arranged the furniture just-so and made sure the television reception will be optimal. When that annual Sunday of all Sundays arrives, you want everything perfect.

For Puppy Bowl VIII, of course.

It is hard to believe the Animal Planet Super Bowl parody, which features a slew of adorable canine players, has been on for eight years now. And this year's teams--all the players, er, puppies are available for adoption from several pet rescue organizations--were just annouced.

Are you the educated, academic type? Then you might want to root for Anthony, a pit bull mix who plans to major in art history. More of a sportsman? Then avid frisbee player Baskin, a Jack Russel/pug mix may be the puppy you cheer for. As Radar reports, all the contestants compete to be Most Valuable Puppy by running around a miniature football field and playing with various chew toys.

Regardless of which puppy you root for, Puppy Bowl VIII is for a great cause and is sure to be just as entertaining as watching Eli Manning and Tom Brady duke it out. Well, maybe almost as entertaining.

Puppy Bowl VIII airs Super Bowl Sunday (that's Feb. 5) at 3 on Animal Planet.
