It's true. Not only has the 78-year-old artist hit #1 this week on the Billboard Dance Club Play singles chart with "Talking to the Universe, " she's also a big fan of Lady Gaga.
Gay.net reports that Ono is making a fierce comeback as a diva of dance music with her latest chart-topper being her seventh consecutive No. 1 dance single and her ninth overall.
"Isn't that amazing?" Ono said. "I can't believe it. But it's a good song."
However, Ono isn't taking any of the credit. "It certainly wasn't my effort," she said.
Instead, she praises the list of DJs and producers who remixed the song that originally appeared on her 1995 album Rising; a list that includes The Perry Twins, Ralphi Rosario, Chris the Greek, and Tony Marinos. "I mean, it's a good song to begin with, but it didn't get anywhere... The editors and the people that worked on creating the music -- I admire them."
Ono also declared her admiration of Lady Gaga. "She is incredible," Ono said. "She has a very unique thing of her own and an incredible energy."
Known as a bit of a unique spirit herself, Ono says she respects Mother Monster for pushing the envelope and redefining artistic boundaries.
"I like the fact that she is trying all sorts of new things," she said. "I know some people think she shouldn't have worn the meat dress, but if she didn't do anything, people would be saying she is a bore."
It looks like being a bore isn't something Ono will have to worry about either. The singer, who turns 79 in February, is gaining a legion of new fans thanks to her chart-dominating dance tracks and she couldn't be happier. "There are many people that never heard of my songs so it's nice for me."
Give her new No. 1 dance single a listen below and see what you think of Ono's comeback.
