A Moment With: Menswear Designer Katie Eary

Explain your process of design from start to finish. Do you start with inspiration and sketch or drape?
I always start with 3D. I never carry sketch books around (they're too heavy) but I may find an image I love and keep it pinned up so I see it all the time as a reminder. Usually I start with a book, the vision then is 100% mine.

When are you most inspired?
I get inspired when I relax my mind. I have to be surrounded by nice people and laugh. The most important thing to me is laughing.

What inspires you the most?
Nature.

It's Wednesday at 3:15pm, what are you doing?
I'm thinking about winding down for a break! Although this Wednesday at 3:15pm I'll be on a beach in Thailand.

What is your first memory of knowing what fashion was? When did you know you wanted to design fashion?
I can't really remember too much, only that fashion was unobtainable for the likes of myself. I didn't think I would be a fashion designer but I was always an artist.

What's the top artist on your iPod rotation these days?
PJ Harvey

What's your guilty pleasure music?
George Micheal, although I'm not ashamed!

What do you do when work feels a bit overwhelming? How do you like to blow off some steam?
I like to get drunk with a group of my best mates. If I can't remember my own name at the end of the night its been a success.
