Like coming out isn't tough enough, now it can happen as a "joke" on Twitter? That's what the UK's X Factor champion Joe McElderry says, anyway. The 19-year-old told The Sun
that people "hacked" his account and once word was out there, he thought he better come clean and tell his mum on a train journey, seeing as she was reading that very same tabloid rag anyways (hmmm...a setup story here?). Either way, Joe says everyone's been supportive, from family and friends to the talent show's host, Simon Cowell.
And Joe's own take on coming out? "I thought I wasn't gay, so I thought it was just part of the job with all the speculation. So I just let it go over my head and got on with it. It eventually sunk into my mind. Genuinely, I just assumed I wasn't gay. I was so young I never thought any more about it." Ah, to be young and innocent again. Still, well done, Joe.
