Oscar Isaac Might Be Timothée Chalamet’s Daddy
Today in twink news: Timothee Chalamet is getting a new daddy. Oscar Isaac, aka the subject of roughly half of the Internet's existing gay Star Wars fan fiction, is in talks to play Chalamet's father in the upcoming big screen adaptation of sci-fi classic Dune, according to Variety. It looks like some casting director saw all those tweets about Timmy needing a daddy seriously, but that's...not really the kind of daddy we meant!
Frank Herbert's Dune series is one of the cornerstones of science fiction, with a long history of adaptations, both good and bad (let's not talk about David Lynch's 1984 mess). The latest Hollywood attempt to cash in on this beloved property -- sorry, I mean "attempt to finally give this iconic series the adaptation it deserves" -- has already cast Chalamet as hero Paul Atreides alongside Rebecca Ferguson, Stellan Skarsgard, and Charlotte Rampling. Now, Annihilation star Isaac is closing a deal to play Chalamet's father Duke Leto Atreides, who rules the desert planet Arrakis in Herbert's novel. The film will be directed by Arrival and Blade Runner: 2049 filmmaker Denis Villeneuve, who is also co-writing the script with Eric Roth and Jon Spaihts.
Is it weird that Isaac, who is only 16 years older than Chalamet, might play our favorite straight twink's father? No, because this is sci-fi, honey, and details like that literally don't matter. I for one am extremely excited to imagine Oscar Isaac teaching Timmy how to throw a space football, or whatever. Maybe they'll both wear harnesses to the premiere!
