Just when you thought the cinematic transcendence of Transformers would go unnoticed forever.
No longer will the divide between "Oscar films" and blockbusters - which has admittedly blurred in the past - be a stark, divisive contrast. Now blockbusters will be Oscar films!
It was announced today that the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences will be creating a new category that will showcase films which appeal to a wider audience. "A new category is being designed around achievement in popular film," reads a tweet from the organization.

The news comes a day after John Bailey was reelected to preside for a second year over the Academy as its president, along with the promise of an earlier air date in 2020, and "more globally accessible, three-hour telecast." Bailey has expressed interest in the past of expanding the reach of the Hollywood machine and enlisting more voters around the world to freshen up the well-established system.
