Samira Wiley and Lauren Morelli are parting ways.
The Orange Is the New Black star and the Tales of the City showrunner are "amicably filing for divorce on Friday," a representative informed Out via email.
"After nine years together we have decided to end our marriage, however, our lifelong commitment to co-parenting will forever remain," the couple said in a statement to Out.
Wiley and Morelli first met in December 2012 during production of OITNB, where Morelli also worked as a writer. Morelli was married at the time, but later divorced her husband, Steve Basilone, in 2014.
Wiley and Morelli announced their engagement in 2016 on Instagram with a post of the two smiling and Wiley showing a ring on her finger. The caption read, "Yes."
That year, they were profiled as part of Out's Love Issue featuring prominent LGBTQ+ couples. Said Morelli of their relationship journey: "I had started questioning my sexuality as a result of being in the [OITNB] writers' room and talking about all the themes on the show. I was still very confused, but I knew the attraction between us felt magnetic."
"I think — I know — I would not be where I am without Lauren," Wiley shared in that joint interview. "When I was first being thrust into the public eye, I wouldn't talk about my orientation. Being with Lauren taught me self-love."
Wiley and Morelli married in March 2017 in Palm Springs, California. On April 11, 2021, Morelli gave birth to their daughter, George Elizabeth.
In recent years, Wiley starred in The Handmaid's Tale, where she won an Emmy for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Drama Series in 2018 and was nominated three other times. Morelli is currently serving as an executive producer on the upcoming Netflix drama The Altruists, about cryptocurrency fraudsters Sam Bankman-Fried and Caroline Ellison.
