Secret Lives of Mormon Wives star Layla Taylor just came out as bisexual right before Pride Month comes to a close.
The 25-year-old reality TV star opened up about her sexuality publicly for the first time on Jay Shetty’s On Purpose podcast on Monday, June 29.
“I'm gay and I'm bi and date women and men," Taylor said.
The mother of two said that she’s struggled with whether or not to share this news with the public despite having known she was attracted to women “since I was little.”
“It’s just something that I honestly didn’t really know how to formally address for a long period of my life,” she said. “We’re only on this earth for however long we are here and I’ll be damned if I’m not able to be fully who I am.”
Taylor has been through a rough patch after divorcing her husband Clayton Wessel last year and breaking up with Mason McWhorter, whom she dated from July 2025 to February 2026. But it was this breakup that inspired her to finally grab life by the horns and be her real, authentic self.
“I think honestly that breakup was like a blessing in disguise because I feel like now I've been fully able to just focus on Layla. And yeah, just focus on who I truly am,” she said.
Taylor admitted that while she didn’t have any queer representation in her real life, she got a taste of it from TV. “I would be watching shows like Pretty Little Liars, and I would watch Shay Mitchell kissing a girl. Was like, ‘Wait, why is that hot?’ ” she said. “But I didn't know what those feelings were because I didn't have queer representation around me. [No one] I could look at it and be like, ‘OK, this is normal.’ ”
Now, she’s open to dating women and even had a sapphic kiss recently after going on a date with a woman she met on social media.
“We met up, and we hung out and it was just kind of like that first kiss of, like, this wasn't like a drunk moment,” Taylor explained. “Like this was me intentionally going into a moment knowing how I felt about women.”
She also admitted that she wasn’t just breaking the news to the world by opening up on the podcast, but also her Secret Lives of Mormon Wives costars who have no idea she’s bi.
“I know that there's some friendships that are in different places than they have been in the past,” Taylor said of the cast. “But I think right now we've just been kind of a little separate since just going on that pause from filming and everything like that. So I just haven't seen any of them in person.”
But that doesn’t mean she's ashamed of her sexuality; in fact, it’s the exact opposite.
“I'm very proud to be bi, and I'm very proud now to be out,” Taylor said. “And I hope that if anyone's in a situation that I am as well, that, for a long time there, I didn't know if I could come out and truly be myself. I hope that they can feel safe to do so and proud to do so.”
